With the support of The National Lottery Community Fund, we run a year-round Clubs programme of creative activities. Clubs are aimed at disabled people – carers, support workers, PAs, family members, partners and friends are welcome as companions. The Clubs programme is based at St Bart’s Centre, 292b Barking Road, East Ham E6 3BA. Nearest station East Ham (not accessible, but there are direct buses from Canning Town station or Beckton DLR). Bus routes include: 5 and 115. Street parking for Blue Badge users only. NB: there is a Changing Places toilet close by at East Ham Leisure Centre.
We are Newham-based, but welcome participants from outside the borough. The Clubs programme is led by mid-career artist Alison Marchant, and Clubs are facilitated by other mid-career disabled artists, working alongside emerging and community artists. We believe that everyone has something to teach and something to learn.
All of our activities are FREE and there is no need to book. We do not ask for ‘proof’ of disability, and do not require participants to attend every week. Our Ground Rules provide further details of what is expected of participants, and our Code of Practice for Personal Assistance provides details of what is expected of supporters.
Participants and volunteers under the age of 26 can earn a nationally recognised Arts Award qualification through taking part. We are currently exploring ways in which we can offer certificates and qualifications for over-25s.
