Together! 2019 Disability History Month Festival

Everyone is welcome at the Together! 2019 Disability History Month Festival, which showcases the talents of and is led by Disabled artists. All events are FREE and no booking is required, but if you would like to reserve seats then please email info@together2012.org.uk All events are ‘relaxed’, have step-free access, amplification and induction loops; most events have British Sign Language interpretation. Click here to go straight to the Together! 2019 Disability Film Festival. Peck Your Own by Sarah Hughes from the Together! 2019 Open Exhibition.

2-30 November 2019 (not Sundays): Together! 2019 Open Exhibition, bringing together work by amateur, community, emerging and mid-career Disabled artists with a local connection. Meet the Artists Tuesday 19 November 3-5pm. Beckton Globe Library.

19 November – 2 December 2019 (restricted opening hours): On Illness. This installation by mid-career conceptual artist Alison Marchant interrogates Virginia Woolf’s A Writer’s Diary to create a new publication focussing on Woolf’s writing about sickness and creativity and reclaim Woolf as a Disabled artist. Meet the Artist Friday 29 November 6-8pm. St Bart’s Community Centre.

On Illness is at St Bart’s East Ham until 2 December.

22 November 2019, 7-9pm: Notes from the EastJo-anne Cox is joined by Janice Weir, Angus McKenzie Davie and guests from the Together! Music Club for a musical celebration of Disability History Month. Live-streamed to Facebook together2012cic from the Old Town Hall Stratford: watch the video here.

1 December 2019: 2pm ‘Amazonia’ Paracarnival Parade. This summer’s Paracarnival project in East London won the Best Theme Interpretation Award at Hackney Carnival. See them parade through Canning Town’s newest shopping centre at Hallsville from Morrisons.

Together! with our Carnival Arts partners Paracarnival will be parading from Morrisons Canning Town on 1 December at 2pm.

4 December 2019: 10.30am-12noon followed by lunch:  Penny Pepper shares the secrets of her success via a live feed and leads a special edition of the Pop-Up Poetry Club at Vicarage Lane Community Centre Stratford.

6-8 December 2019, 6-8pm on 6 December, 12-8pm on Saturday and Sunday: Together! 2019 Disability Film Festival, Old Town Hall Stratford. Our international Film Festival brings together films of all genres by Disabled filmmakers and/or featuring a central Disabled character. This includes a celebration of the work of Katherine Araniello on the opening night, and a two-day workshop for filmmakers on creating artists’ films on 5 & 6 December at St Bart’s Community Centre East Ham (11am-4pm daily).

Penny Pepper will be sharing her secrets on 4 December and performing on 13 December.

10 December 2019, 11am-2pm: Our Lives, Our History with Newham Disabled Reps Forum. Vicarage Lane Community Centre.

13 December 2019, 7-9pm: Penny Pepper stops off from her Naked Punk tour to join us for our end-of-festival party. Plus Open Mic compered by Ju Gosling aka ju90.
