Thursday 3 December 2020

For Disabled Filmmakers Day 1 (Zoom). These sessions are suitable for filmmakers at every stage in their career.

    • 10.30am Doors open on Zoom for introductions and networking via Live Chat.
    • 11am Finding Funding 1: Aakash Bharania from Arts Council England. Find out more about the new Project Fund, now open for applications. Includes a Question & Answer session.
    • 11.55am Break. Live Chat continues.
    • 12.05pm Finding Funding 2: Phoebe Sutherland from the BFI Film Fund. Find out more about the funding opportunities available from the British Film Institute. Includes a Question & Answer session.
    • 1pm Break. Zoom remains open for Live Chat and networking.
    • 3-4pm Filming in the age of Covid-19, 1: Broadcast correspondent and presenter Jay Hirst talks about how his working practice has changed, including during a visit to the Nightingale Hospital in East London.

  • 4-7pm Explore.  Choose from a selection of links to films that we loved but did not have space for in the main programme.

    • 11am There is Power in a Union 1: with Dan Edge, Vice Chair of Equity’s Deaf and Disabled Members Committee (DDMC) in conversation with Dr Ju Gosling Find out what Equity offers to people working in front of an audience.

    • 12.05pm There is Power in a Union 2: with Carwyn Donovan from Bectu. Find out what Bectu offers to Disabled people working behind the scenes in the film below – if you are interested in joining, use this link: https://bectu.org.uk/join/

    • 3-4pm Filming in the age of Covid-19, 2: how we made ‘Funny Peculiar’ with Vici Wreford-Sinnott of Little Cog and actor Mandy Colleran.

7pm Powerful Women. Includes Vital Xposure’s Voices from the Knitting Circle, directed by Julie McNamara, Little Cog’s Funny Peculiar with Liz Carr, Vici Wreford-Sinnott, Mandy Colleran and Bea Webster, plus short films by Deborah Caulfield, Vilma Jackson and Sahera Khan.

Please note The Together! Disability Film Festival supports the ‘F-system’ of film ratings developed by Bath Film Festival. We also use our own ‘D’ system within the programme to show the involvement of Disabled people behind and in front of the camera.

  • 1.30pm We are Deaf & Disabled People 1: Living In Fear. Stephanie Castelete-Tyrrell. UK. 2020. 01:36:06. Premiere. Stephanie captures how the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted on Disabled people’s lives, unveiling the impact for the first time. Winner of the Kat Award for Best First Film.
  • 3.15pm Crossing Boundaries 2: Signdance Collective International present The Time Project (engagement films from In Between Spaces by associated artists and the international  community). Winner of the Kat Award for Best Accessible Film.

  • 4.15pm Intermission. Make your own smoothies and pop corn.
  • 4.30pm Dancing Differently 1. Documentaries, performances and dance-films from the UK, US, Italy and Canada.
  • 5.30pm Short Stories 1. Dramas from the UK, US, Luxembourg and Australia.
  • 6.30pm Intermission. Time to feed the pets, plants and yourselves.
  • 7pm Night-time Stories 1: Breaking Boundaries. The characters in these short films from the UK, US, Italy, Poland and Canada have no intention of following the rules!
