Tracy Vidal: Kindness Matters

Two black-and-white images have been cut out of white paper and pasted onto a black circle, which itself occupies the top left-hand corner of a piece of white paper. One image is of an angel in flight over a cloud, holding a heart in her hand, with the text With Brave Wings She Flies, Love, and Fly on it, and one is of a little girl with her hair in bunches, holding a flower she has just picked from a row in front of her, with the text Market.

This image shows the detail from one of the previous images, the cloud with the words Love and Fly, with the cloud coloured in blue. This time the image, which has again been cut out, mounted on black paper, then cut out and mounted again on white paper, is much larger and dominates the background.

This time the image shows the full image of the angel in flight over the cloud, with the text With Brave Wings She Flies, Love, and Fly. This time the image has been coloured, cut out, mounted on black paper, then remounted on white with Blue Rocks stamped across the top.

In this image only the angel is pictured, again coloured in and cut out, mounted onto black paper and then cut out again and mounted onto white. Angel Allegory is stamped across the bottom.

A different image of a little girl has been coloured in, cut out and mounted on black paper before being cut out again. She is holding a heart on a stick as if it was a flower on a stem. Cut out separately is a coloured-in image of a pile of hearts. Wait And Hope is stamped across the top.

The angel and little girl appear again from the button art image. Still in black and white, they have been cut out and pasted onto black paper.

A new image of a little girl holding a gold star in her hands has been coloured in, cut out, mounted on black paper, cut out again and mounted onto white. There are separate images that may be wings and lettering. Smitten Kitten 2 is stamped across the top.

This is a very similar image to Wait and Hope, with different colouring and a different tile. An image of a little girl has been coloured in, cut out and mounted on black paper before being cut out again. She is holding a heart on a stick as if it was a flower on a stem. Cut out separately is a coloured-in image of a pile of hearts. Smitten Kitten 1 is stamped across the top.

The angel appears here, again coloured in, cut out, mounted on black, and cut out again and mounted on white. Love And Deeper Understanding is stamped across the top. In this image the angel is smaller, taking up about a quarter of the paper only, although she is centred horizontally.

The angel and little girl appear again from the button art image. Now coloured in, they have been cut out and pasted onto black paper before being cut out again and pasted onto white. Love and peace is stamped across the top.

A new image is of a woman in a black and white patterned jumpsuit raising her arms above her head, which has her hair tied into a bun on top. She has a red heart in the middle of her suit, and looks as if she is drumming or dancing. The image has been cut out of white paper, mounted onto black, and cut out again and mounted on the centre of a white sheet of paper. Harmony is stamped across the top.

The image of the woman has been recoloured, cut out again and remounted, this time with the text saying Dwell In Possibility.

For the first time, the image has been coloured and cut out and glued directly onto white paper. This is of the same woman as previously, but she is pictured smaller. Above her are 4 stamps or doodles of groups of hearts. The text reads Be Kind.

This is a similar image to the previous one, but reads Show Kindness, and the doodles or stamps are beneath as well as above the figure.

In this image, the woman’s image has been mounted on black again before being mounted onto white paper. Four yellow-petalled flowers are in a row above her head, with a heart doodle replacing the fifth. Black Chick Magic is stamped across the top.

This image is on black paper. A computer-generated image of a woman clasping one hand to her forehead is printed on white paper and glued into the centre. Above, a handwritten piece of text says: “Oh my stars. You’re such a clutchz. U worry me tracy you really do.”

A red heart is at the centre of a black spiral on white canvas, which itself is at the centre of a flower on the outline of a stem with a leaf on either side. More hearts are attached around the centre, some directly like petals, and some sticking out as if on their own stems.

This final piece shows a pair of paintings, one on a black and one on a white background. Both show the same colourful flower, with hearts in the petals and the stems as well as at the centre.
