Crystal Peasy: Snow Flakes
I love snowflakes
When I walk I hear sounds
Snowflakes lie on the top of a tree it’s like
Crystals and shining
When you pick up snowflakes
It can melt in your hand
And when snowflakes come down
They are very tiny
And when you are walking under the snowflakes
It can cover you with
White snowflakes.
Glory Sengo: Ice and Snowflakes
When I was walking on the snow
It was a foggy day
And I saw a snowflake and I stepped on it
And I just wondered where was the bear?
And I thought it was behind me.
Then I was in the reindeer’s house
With Rudolph and his parents
I was waking up in the morning
Cleaning the reindeers
So that we can go outside in the
Daytime while there’s snow outside
Where we tried to be careful
And sing a song with the other reindeers.
Then we met the keeper
And I was going to sit down with them
And I went to Santa’s toy factory in the village
Then we were singing them songs when I was in America
I saw the Northern Lights
And we met the other reindeers
Where there was snowflakes and ice
Then I went into the sun and met the elf
Then we went down Stormella’s Bridge
Then went to the village and Santa’s factory.
Julie Newman: And Then Came Ice and Snow
Grey, dark bleak skies.
Clouds sitting heavy,
Crowding in on the days.
Gardens damp, dank,
Empty of all but the relics
Of the last season.
Leaves brown, blackened
With the rust of decay.
Lie heavy on the ground.
An unexpected splash
Of pink petals sits balanced
On a leafless twig.
The bush now stark in winter
Gloom. Resting, waiting
For the awakening.
Cloud breaking, the temperature
Drops low in the glass.
Frost starts to form.
Then silent in the night,
The snow falls. Soft,
Muffling the nocturnal sounds.
A fox pauses, stopping
Mid stride. Paw raised as it
Stares around before moving on.
Come the dawn, a shaft of light
Catches the jewel of ice,
Caught on a brave pink petal.
Petrified in a final act of beauty
The day is made brighter
With this diamond sparkle.
Alison Marchant: Ice and Snowflakes
Outside the puddles have frozen over
Like slippery cracked glass.
Snowflakes close up in a symmetry
Of tiny spiky designs
Just look at them as they
Land on you,
In a flurry through the chilly air
Just before they melt.
The sun is trying to peep out
But doesn’t know how.
Even on sunny days it is still winter.
Snowflakes have crystalised into
Fluffs of snow.
A cluster of cold
In the damp air.
Just breathe on them
And watch as they melt
Into the fabric of your coat.
The small droplet of water
Tumbles to the ground
Like a tear only
To freeze over into ice again
And become one of many puddles.

Crystal Peasy: The Painting
The painting is of rainbows
Rainbows are all different bright colours
Like green, blue, red, white, yellow and orange
Bright colours are strong
And noticeable
And not dark
I do many different paintings
To decorate my house
And we decorate my house in different colours
I can decorate the garden
With all different artworks
All different art
Painting is a good activity.
Glory Sengo: Painting
When I was painting indigo dark blue
That is my most favourite colour
In the busy life of the London Underground
And also mixing colour
With the rugby cup final in France
And it would be very nice for me to live near Walthamstow Central
Finsbury Park
And finally Wood Green
And that’s why I would have a house or a flat there
And it depends on the flat
Because I like flats
As I moved there when I was a baby boy
And I loved it in 1993.
Dawn Barber: The Cottage
There is a cottage I know
That is out of this world
The curtains are pure white
The garden is full of flowers and roses
They smell divine
A nice garden fence
And black gate
And as you walk up the path
There are the climbing yellow roses
Around the windows
And a pretty butterfly that rests on them
And as I breath in and out
I never want to forget this scene
Because this is what life is all about
The cottage is my dream.
Dwain Bryan: A Painting
I did a painting of my own
It was a picture of a plant pot
Flourishing green
Beautiful sprout
And the pot it was in
Was a beautiful brown
It took me about an hour to draw
But believe you me
I really do adore
I use oil pastels
To do the picture
And paint, what a great mixture
I have many pictures that I do like
But this certain picture is just right
I wish you could see it
One of these days
And I hope your comments
Will be great
I have many paintings
And pictures too
But this certain picture
To my heart is true.
What do I do?
What do I say?
I have so many pictures
Around my way
Can I pick my favourite?
Can I pick my best?
I’ll leave you to see the rest.
You must have seen some paintings
At an exhibition or two
So tell me your favourites
That’s all you need to do
If you see a picture
It can tell you a story
But it’s up to you which one is true
It could touch your heart
It could make you cry
It could make you feel like you want to die.
Julie Newman: From the window
Picture this, a familiar landscape,
Colours changing with the seasons.
The image changes
As the train gathers speed.
Pushing onwards to the city.
Pushing onwards through the day.
Houses, side by side
Become the new landscapes.
Flashes of other peoples lives.
Not a thousand words
But windows framing the dramas
Of other peoples lives.
Glimpses uncensored of the
Day to day clutter.
The day to day heartbreak.
The day to day joy.
Rooms are the views,
Intimate but distant.
Other peoples lives, dreams.
The day to day clutter
Of emotions and hopes.
The bleakness of despair.
The detritus of their days.
Other peoples days.
The journey rushes to an end.
The natural end.
Expected and accepted.
All that lingers is now
Lost in the bustle of a different world.
A new picture is drawn.
Other peoples lives, dreams.
The day to day clutter
Of emotions and hopes.
The bleakness of despair.
The detritus of their days.
Other peoples lives.
Kate Rolison: The Goose and the Star
A storm
And a single Canada goose
Small as a fingernail
Snug against the clouds
Suspended amongst prongs
Of lightning
That dive into the grass
Like a plant putting down roots
It has lost its skein
Its way
Yet resolutely flies
Towards red mountains
Between green and blue flash.
Over all this an orange star winks
As if to say
Though lonely
You are not alone.
Alison Marchant: Painting of Lochbuie, Isle of Mull.
Painting at Lochbuie
Using water from rock pools
The wind scatters sand.
Water colours soak into small pieces of textured paper
The gritty sand sweeps across the image in brush strokes.
The sun beats down to dry the paintings.
The landscape is empty of people,
With just the sounds of the calling curlew.

Glory Sengo: Winter
When I was skiing down the snow
I was skiing really slow
And everyone was skiing faster
Then I was skiing slowly still
Then skiing down again
And I had a cup of tea and biscuits
Then I went on to do more skiing
Skiing slowly
Then I went to ski faster
And stopped and had my food
Which was fish and chips.
When the lady was skiing down very calmly
Then stood back up
And skiing down again
She was very hurtful
And starts skiing down
And she went wahhh ahh
She starts getting up and yelled very loud
And she stood back up and went skiing down
And then she went to have a cup of tea and biscuits
And put newspaper on her hair so that her hair would get dry
And she went up and skied back again
And stopped
And went to have fish and chips.
She scuttled down in the snow
Then stood back up
Then she was being hurtful
Then she started calming down
Skiing calmly
Then starts skiing fast
Then goes to have a cup of tea
Then goes and sits down for a bit
Then gets the newspaper on her hair
So that her hair would get dry
And she has a little bit of tea
Then goes skiing back again in the snow
And goes back and has some fish and chips.
Dawn Barber: Winter Walks
On a cold winter’s day he walks the pathway
The wind blows in his face
He pulls his scarf up to his neck and the collar of his coat
Even though it is cold he still has a walk every day
There’s a little café near home
He pops in to have a tea
Then he heads off to the library to get some more books
Time now to head off home to relax in his chair
Near a warm fire
But he thinks he shouldn’t sit in for too long
I must do something to keep myself busy
So his thoughts don’t take over everything.
Crystal Peasy: Winter
It’s very cold in the winter
In the wintertime people can catch cold or flu
And the weather is so bad
People get sick
That’s why people go to hospital
And also people can get pneumonia.
Dwain Bryan: The Signs of Winter
That chill in the air
The trees go bare
The frost and cold in your toes
That red mark on your nose
Your woolly hat and your scarf
The snow throwing marks you laugh
There is snow on the ground
And snow falling from the sky
You hope the day goes ok
And your world won’t delay
You don’t want to slip
You don’t want to slide
But you wish the reindeers
Will give you a ride
Winter blues, winter cold
You stay at home and try to be strong
And bold
What are the other signs of winter
How can you tell
At least it’s not as hot
Or as bad as hell.
Kate Rolison: Winter
Burrowing down beneath blanket,
Quilt, duvet
Barely leaving the house
A friend tells me it’s dark
When she sets off in the morning and dark
When she leaves work
For the small blessings
The piercing sun burning cold
Frost on the grass
And evergreen trees
So I search
For the small blessings
The piercing sun burning cold
Frost on the grass
And evergreen trees.
Julie Newman: January
The sun is low. Very little light
Shines through empty windows.
The holiday garlands now gone,
Leaving no space for shadows.
This can only be winter time. A glimmer
Of hope shines as the days grow longer,
And the sun grows stronger.
The dogs lie huddled in their beds,
Not anxious to run in the shaded frozen yard.
The cats sit looking through the windows, darkly
Hoping for the flash of wings, or the flick
Of a branch, blown by the wind.
No creatures stir outside, as the cold light
Harshly shows the shape of things not there.
But soon, soon, will the earth start to warm.
Life coming back as shoots start to form.
Soon, soon will the days lengthen further,
The birds return, and the sun shine longer.
Until then, we all huddle down, waiting for spring
To lighten our days. The cold reminds us
That time moves on and seasons change.
Alison Marchant: Winter
We barely see the light of day
And frost settles in the mornings
Icing the puddles and leaves cold to touch
The forest in its frosty glare
As the birds settle
This image I share
A Winter landscape
A chilly wind
Wrapping up warm
As the Robin sings
A solitary Magpie in the overgrown garden
Haunts me
One for sorrow
In an empty house of ghosts of things
Objects so dear.
