The film features dance scenes as a fusion between three choreographers and students at a dance workshop and provides key statements by a performer, guiding the film’s critique of the barriers present in public spaces, the exclusion of people with disabilities in relation to human rights, and the lack of social integration within the Austrian educational system. The film was blocked for its original screening and has not yet been shown publicly in its country of origin.
Chaal. Areeba Yunus Ghani. Pakistan. 2024. 12:25. International Premiere. FF. D. Ayaz Baig, a 50 year old theatre actor in Karachi, Pakistan, embraces his passion for acting despite physical limitations. The documentary is about the life of Ayaz, and how theatre helped him integrate into a society that usually creates a taboo out of a person with a disability. The film represents those who push the limits of society by proving that disability does not mean an end to a person’s life.
One Step Too Many. Mehroz Amin. Pakistan. 2024. UK Premiere. 13:50. D. Abiha and Ali bond over their love for motivational speaking and music. With Ali’s encouragement, Abiha regains her confidence to sing, and together they create a cover of her favourite song.
