Marcos, força de vontade / Marcos – Willpower. Zoran Djordevic. Brazil. 2024. 86m. Online Premiere. D. Artist Marcos Santos de São José dos Campos does everything with his feet. In his childhood, Marcos learned to communicate through art. His first drawings were made with a piece of charcoal he found in the street. The camera follows Marcos’ life from 1996 to today.


In this programme of short films, artists from outside the UK explore themes of impairment and discrimination that are also relevant to UK viewers. All films are captioned, any additional accessibility features are noted in the programme. Warning: This programme contains references to suicide and distressing topics. Stadsgeluiden. Chung Dha Lam. The Netherlands. 2024. 1m. D. People say each city has their own voice. However viewed from a visually impaired person it may all be just noise, hindering him from hearing the sounds that actually guides him through the city.


The Hope. Aneesh Narath. India. 2020. 6m. D. A disabled girl dreams of a world where all girls are united to fight against oppression and inequality, and support each other to achieve their potential and break free from societal constraints. The film delivers a powerful message about unity, strength, and the boundless possibilities of collective action.


Semper Augustus. Claudia Doronzo. Italy. 2022. 02:03. FFF. DD. The story of Vincenza, a woman who has a rare genetic disease Friedreich’s Atassia. Vincenza’s voice guides the viewer through metaphors comparing her illness to a rare tulip streaked with red veins, called Semper Augustus, modified by a virus that causes it to weaken.


Über den Schatten springen. Anja Gessenhardt. Germany. 2023. 13:52. UK Premiere. FFF. DD. Mareike Heenemann is an autistic circus artist who tries to find her way in the world of neurotypical people. It shows the difficulties that not only, but especially women, face if they want to survive in a society that is still ignorant about neurodivergence, but also addresses the opportunities of being different. Social norms are questioned and alternatives in coexistence are shown, so that ultimately a “cultural exchange” between the world of neurotypical and neurodivergent people becomes possible.


A(rt)DHD. Andrew Coons. USA. 2024. 5m. World premiere. D. An afternoon with multi-faceted, Minneapolis-based artist Maxwell Freudenthal, where he paints an original work beginning to end while talking about the challenge of committing to artistic projects as a person living with undiagnosed ADHD.


Everyday My Heart Is Breaking. Tanya Kim. Sweden. 2024. 2:58. UK Premiere. FFF. DDD. A short, poetic film about how life can be overwhelmingly sad and beautiful. We follow a car journey with a silent passenger as she observes the fleeting colours of a distant outside world.


This and not another body. Malgorzata Szyszka. Poland. 2024. 1:42. UK Premiere. F. D. Based on a poem by Janusz Szuber, the film concerns the world around us from the perspective of a wheelchair user who feels his corporeality very strongly.


Sin Anestesia (Without Anesthesia). Monika Požek. Slovenia/Spain. 2023. 3:45. UK Premiere. D. F. Silence is portrayed as an escape from a mundane life that is insignificant in the eyes of the universe and longs for meaning. The creative process is an effort to identify the fundamentals affecting how ordinary, human noise is perceived. A choreographic piece inspired by Slovenian poet Aleš Debeljak’s poem about paradoxes.

My Life Between the Reins. Marilyn Swick. USA. 2024. 2:58. UK Premiere. FFF. D.  A music video featuring an original song celebrating the relationship between a mother and her daughter as they take an equestrian journey.
